The Sport Premium funding must be spent by schools on improving provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils registered at the school so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles.
“The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.
This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – will be allocated to primary school Headteachers.” DFE 2013
At St Mary’s RC Primary School we aim to use this money to create a sustainable curriculum for all children. Therefore some of the money provided by the funding will be invested in the professional development of staff and as a result should enhance the quality of teaching for all children.
- We have used some of the Sports premium to deploy a sports specialist teacher to work in our school. He coaches teachers and works alongside them in a range of sports. Due to his influence and expertise, all teachers will have the chance to develop their teaching of P.E. and will team teach with a specialist to increase knowledge, skills and confidence. In 2016-2017 he teaches2 hours a week to teaching 2 separate year groups and coaching two members of staff.
The Action Plan below shows the amount of premium the school has received, how it will be spent and what the impact will be on the pupils’ PE and sports participation and attainment as a result, to help ensure that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles.
