Year 1 – Virtual Learning

Year 1 – Virtual Learning Week 10

Hello Year 1,

This week our wellbeing focus is Taking Notice, see the attached mood board for lots of activities. One of the activities is about the 7 Wonders of the World, so I thought it would be fun to have an explorers and pirates theme. I’m looking forward to seeing what ideas you come up with.

Our book this week is The Colour Monster, which is an absolutely beautiful book about emotions. I hope you enjoy it.  I have added in some monsters for you to colour. Maybe you could use these for a wellbeing check in at home? You could draw your own, for some inspiration try Draw with Rob. https://youtu.be/PedfXGus_K0

In spellings the focus is the au and aw graphemes, with assignments set on Spelling Shed. There are daily phonics activities and sentence work, based on PhonicsPlay, with a little help from Mr Thorne and Geraldine – revising sounds covered earlier in the year.

Reading – log on , to My Rising Stars, click on Reading Planet, don’t forget to complete the quiz at the end to earn more house points! If you have any issues with this, please let myself or Miss Fairhurst know.  These will be changed twice a week.

Reading comprehension and writing this week is based on Traction Man, I know you loved his adventures. Additional reading comprehension is available on Cracking Comprehension: https://my.risingstars-uk.com/Default.aspx?testid=26376&u=8bdf6060-9d49-4a4f-b851-45644e702a42

Year 1 – Virtual Learning Week 11

Hello Year 1,

Where has the time gone? I can’t believe this is our last but one week. I’ve been really impressed with what some of you have been posting on ClassDojo. I’m sure Mrs Tucker will also be, as we are thinking of transition. I’d love to see more of your wonderful work, those who are at home, or anything you have been up to. You are very much in our thoughts and are much missed.

Our wellbeing focus this week is Giving.

Mrs James’ book for giving is “The Very Cranky Bear” – by Nick Bland https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLu_9Jf9Ywc What is giving? https://youtu.be/NRJXjqPu3C4 Why do we give? https://youtu.be/YfAU4PE7RNM

Another story all about giving is The Smartest Giant in Town. https://youtu.be/7bZU1k2Q27U. There are lots of giants in stories, so our focus in topic this week is Once Upon A Time.

In spellings the focus is on the affixes un, er and est, with assignments set on Spelling Shed as well. There are daily phonics activities and sentence work, based on PhonicsPlay, with a little help from Mr Thorne and Geraldine – revising split digraphs covered earlier in the year.  I know these can be a bit tricky!

Reading – log on , to My Rising Stars, click on Reading Planet, don’t forget to complete the quiz at the end to earn more house points! If you have any issues with this, please let myself or Miss Fairhurst know.  These will be changed twice a week.

Reading comprehension and writing this week is on poetry. Additional reading comprehension is available on Cracking Comprehension: https://my.risingstars-uk.com/Default.aspx?testid=26360&u=8bdf6060-9d49-4a4f-b851-45644e702a42

I look forward to seeing what you come up with this week. It really makes us smile to see all the interesting things you get up to at home. You are very much in our thoughts, even though we can’t see you.

Have fun, stay safe.
